Keitakuen
慶沢園
Keitakuen is a Japanese stroll garden inside Tennoji Park. It was built for the wealthy Sumitomo family and given to the city of Osaka in 1926. Paths wind around a large pond with islands, stone lanterns, bridges and carefully clipped trees.
It feels a world away from the busy Tennoji crossing a few minutes away, and yet the Abeno Harukas tower rises behind the trees. That mix of old garden and new skyline is very Osaka. It is small, cheap and rarely crowded.
What to see and do
Walk the loop around the central pond for changing views of islands, bridges and lanterns.
The glass tower framed by pines is the garden's best-known photo.
A small hill next door, possibly a 5th-century burial mound and a battlefield in the 1615 siege.
Good to know
- Pair it with the Osaka City Museum of Fine Art and Shitennoji in the same area.
- Come in late afternoon for softer light on the pond.
