GUIDE · USJ VACATION RENTALS
Vacation rentals near Universal Studios Japan: which area, and how they differ from hotels
Search for a rental near USJ and the options seem scattered all over Osaka. In practice, how easy USJ is depends less on distance to the park and more on whether you can reach Nishikujo — where the JR Yumesaki Line starts — without changing trains. We run homes in Osaka; here's how the areas compare, plus what's different about staying in a Japanese rental rather than a hotel.
The short answer
- Easiest: Nishikujo. Two stops on the JR Yumesaki Line to USJ with no change (about 5 min). We have 6 homes there.
- Along the Hanshin Namba Line (Kujo, Chidoribashi, Denpo) you change once at Nishikujo, but you also get a direct line to Namba.
- None of our homes is within walking distance of the park. If walking to the gate matters most, an official hotel by the park is the better fit.
- Many Osaka rentals operate under the city's 'special zone' licence, which by law requires a stay of at least 2 nights. For a one-night trip, include hotels in your search.
By area: how to get to USJ
| Area | Our homes | Sleeps up to | Getting to USJ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nishikujo | 6 | 10 | 2 stops on the JR Yumesaki Line, no change |
| Kujo, Chidoribashi, Denpo (Hanshin Namba Line) | 5 | 10 | Hanshin Namba Line to Nishikujo, then change to the JR Yumesaki Line (one change) |
| Around Universal City station | None | — | This is where the official park hotels are |
USJ's station is Universal City on the JR Yumesaki Line, which runs Nishikujo → Ajikawaguchi → Universal City. Every route passes through Nishikujo.
Which area suits you
- Two or more days at USJ, or you want to be there at opening → Nishikujo, no change of train.
- You'll also spend time in Namba, Dotonbori or Shinsaibashi → the Hanshin Namba Line (Kujo, Chidoribashi, Denpo), direct to Osaka-Namba.
- You're also visiting the Kaiyukan aquarium (Osakako) → from Nishikujo take the Loop Line to Bentencho and change to the Osaka Metro Chuo Line.
- Staying in Namba and riding out to USJ → from Hanshin Osaka-Namba, change at Nishikujo. Worth it if USJ is just one day of your trip (see our guide to staying within walking distance of Namba).
Before you book your first Japanese rental
- Only licensed homes may operate. A rental in Japan needs a notification under the Private Lodging Business Act, a hotel/inn licence, or certification under the National Strategic Special Zone scheme.
- Minimum stay: 'special zone' rentals require at least 2 nights by law. Pick your dates on a home's page to see whether it can be booked.
- There's no front desk. You check in online before your trip, and how to get in is explained on your guest page after booking — no queue for keys when you arrive.
- You pay per home, not per room. The total, including the cleaning fee, changes with dates and group size and shows when you search with dates.
- Most homes are in residential streets, so each has house rules — such as keeping noise down at night and sorting rubbish the local way.
- Towels, toiletries and kitchen items vary by home; check the amenities on each home's page.
Making USJ day easier
- Buy breakfast at a supermarket or convenience store the night before, so the morning dash to opening isn't rushed.
- Universal City station gets very crowded right after closing. Leave a little early, or take a break inside the park before heading back.

💡 Arriving early? If nobody stayed the night before, early check-in may be possible — we'll let you know the day before.
