Museum of Oriental Ceramics
大阪市立東洋陶磁美術館
The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka holds one of the world's finest collections of Korean and Chinese ceramics, from celadon bowls to blue-and-white porcelain, in a calm modern building on Nakanoshima island between two rivers.
Important for planning: the museum is closed for renovation until around April 2027, so there are no exhibitions to see before then. Its café stays open, so you can still enjoy the riverside setting and come back for the collection after it reopens.
What to see and do
The core of the collection is Korean and Chinese ceramics, displayed so you can look closely at glazes and forms.
The museum sits on the tip of Nakanoshima, a short walk from the red-brick Central Public Hall and the domed Nakanoshima Library.
The museum café stays open during the renovation closure.
