Hosomi Museum
細見美術館
The Hosomi Museum is a private museum built on the collection of the Hosomi family of Osaka. It is known for Japanese art: Rinpa painting, Ito Jakuchu, Buddhist and Shinto art, and tea utensils. It sits in Okazaki, Kyoto's museum district near Heian Shrine.
The modern building takes its cue from Kyoto town houses, stepping down around an open courtyard. Exhibitions are small and focused, so you can see one properly in an hour. Afterwards there's a café, a design-minded shop and a rooftop tea room with views to the eastern hills.
What to see and do
Themed shows drawn from the collection and elsewhere, often Rinpa, Jakuchu or tea culture.
A sukiya-style tea room on the top floor looking toward the Higashiyama hills.
A café and a Japanese-design shop, both free to enter.
