Creative Center Osaka
クリエイティブセンター大阪
Creative Center Osaka fills the former Namura Shipbuilding yard on the Kizu River in Kitakagaya. After the yard closed, the owner began a 30-year art project here in 2004, and the site opened as a creative centre in 2005. In 2007 it was named a Modern Industrial Heritage Site.
Rusting cranes, docks and huge sheds now host exhibitions, concerts, festivals and film shoots. The spaces are raw and dramatic, especially the old drawing office, now the Black Chamber. It is normally a private site, so time your visit for an event or join a guided tour.
What to see and do
Old shipyard buildings and waterfront docks, listed as Modern Industrial Heritage.
Art fairs, concerts and festivals take place several times a year.
Guided tours are held regularly and are the easiest way to see inside.
A creative space in the former office building.
What’s on
Good to know
- General sightseeing is not normally accepted; contact the centre first or come on an event day.
- Wear flat shoes: the site is an old shipyard with uneven ground.
