Step out of the station and you're in a covered shopping street — in the evening, locals with shopping baskets and kids on bicycles drift through the arcade, and the butcher and fish shops light up. It's not a tourist-heavy area, but it holds the everyday rhythm of Osaka. In the morning, walk to CAFE AKARI or Bel Tree Tengachaya for toast and coffee. If you want to cook, the station-front Gyomu Super and VALLEY SPICE MART sell cheap, fresh ingredients plus spices and imported seasonings. For a nightcap, try Taishima (about 7 min walk) or BAR REDCORNER! (about 8 min) — both local favorites. In spring, a few stops take you to the old Shinsekai signs near Tsutenkaku. In summer, the shopping street hangs Tanabata decorations; in autumn, the market fills with matsutake and sanma.
