Start your morning at Nijo Station's east exit — grab a tamago sando and coffee at Kyoto Asahiya, then stroll west along Sanjo-dori, passing the moat's water sound and morning joggers. By evening, the noren curtain at Ponshu Konakara is up, and locals gather over oden and local sake, talking about today's weather and tomorrow's festival. There's none of Gion's bustle here, but you'll find the real rhythm of Kyoto life — the evening discount stickers at Super Fresco Sanjo, seasonal posters at the pharmacy, elementary school bikes parked outside the convenience store. In spring, enter through Nijo Castle's East Gate and 200+ cherry trees form a pink tunnel over the moat; in autumn, the ginkgo along Horikawa-dori carpets the street. Here you walk through Kyoto's daily life, not just its sights. 🛏Rooms 1F: living, dining, kitchen, laundry, bathroom (shower), outdoor tub, washbasin, toilet. 2F: Japanese room (3 tatami mats, balcony), Western room (1 double bed, balcony), toilet. Sleeps 5. I was able to stay comfortably. The host replied quickly and their responses were polite.
The location is very quiet.
The room is very comfortable, with all the necessary equipment, and there's a small kitchen where you can cook for yourself. Except for the seasonings you need to prepare yourself, everything else is provided. There are many good restaurants nearby, but it's very quiet at night so you can rest well. It's not too far from the subway station, just a 5-6 minute walk away.
A quiet residence away from the bustling city center, very satisfactory.
Super authentic apartment. Would love to come again. Nicely furnished.
This is a quiet location one street back from Nijo castle. This is more like a traditional Japanese home and has 2 bedrooms on 2nd floor with one featuring tatami flooring. Having second toilet for our adult family of 4 was a real bonus. We did use the sheltered outdoor onsen style tub which was great. It’s a short walk to a convenience store or more upscale grocery store and a very short walk to local bus lines. This really made for a fantastic one week stay in Kyoto. Tabi was very responsive when it came to a brief delay in checking in & helping with washing machine instructions. Those over 6 feet in height might find the partition height and bathroom mirror height challenging, but that was also part of the charm of being in a home like this.
