Shinsaibashi & Honmachi
Midosuji is the backbone of Osaka's "commerce," and on either side of it stand neighborhoods of utterly different character. There is Shinsaibashi, lined with brand-name stores; America-mura, with its vintage clothing and records; and Semba & Honmachi, where medicine and textile wholesalers have carried on for 400 years. It is central for both shopping and strolling, yet step one street in and you find the quiet office streets of the wholesale district — an area right in the middle of Osaka where days are lively and nights are quiet enough to sleep.
