Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan, on Osaka Bay, is Kansai's biggest theme park. Super Nintendo World (with Mario Kart, Yoshi's Adventure and Donkey Kong Country), the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minion Park and the preschool-friendly Universal Wonderland are the main reasons families come.

Plan it as a full day with an early start. Ticket prices change by date, entry to Super Nintendo World can be restricted on busy days, and Express Passes sell out. A little preparation makes a big difference with small children.

What to see and do

1Super Nintendo World

You'll find Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, Yoshi's Adventure, Mine Cart Madness in Donkey Kong Country, and Power-Up Band key challenges. A 5th-anniversary event runs through Jan 11, 2027.

2Universal Wonderland

This area is built for young children, with gentle rides and play areas.

3Harry Potter and Minions

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Minion Park are both big favourites with older children.

4Family services

Three Family Services rooms have diaper changing, private nursing rooms, hot water and microwaves. Baby food is also sold in the park.

Strollers and babies

Strollers rent for ¥1,100 inside the park, to the right of the entrance. They are for children 1–48 months, can't be reserved and can't leave the park. Three Family Services locations (Guest Services, Universal Wonderland, and San Francisco area next to South First Aid) have diaper changing, nursing rooms, hot water and microwaves. There are diaper-changing stations in all restrooms except those in restaurants

Good to know

  • Install the official USJ app before you go. Once you're inside the park, grab a free Area Timed Entry Ticket for Super Nintendo World straight away, or buy an Express Pass that includes guaranteed entry.
  • Suitcases aren't allowed in the park and there's no re-entry, so use the large lockers outside the gate and bring everything you need.
