With kids
Kaiyukan
Kaiyukan is a large aquarium on Osaka Bay built around a huge central tank that you circle slowly on a spiral ramp, seeing the same ocean from the surface down to the depths. The route starts at the top of the building and gently winds downward, so little legs mostly walk downhill.
Children can get close to seals, penguins, otters and jellyfish, and the whale shark in the central Pacific Ocean tank is the star for most families. It is all indoors, which makes it a reliable choice on rainy or very hot days.
What to see and do
The central tank is the heart of the building; you pass it again and again on the way down, each time at a different depth.
The visit begins on the upper floor and spirals down, with ramps and elevators, so it is easier on small children than most museums.
Smaller zones along the route give kids plenty of up-close animal moments between the big tanks.
There are baby care rooms with changing beds and formula hot water, plus a quiet nursing room inside the aquarium.
Strollers and babies
No stroller rental is mentioned. Stroller parking is near the entrance (left of the ticket windows), and strollers can be used inside via ramps and elevators, with some shape restrictions. A nursing room sits behind the Aqua Gate tank (no hot water or changing); baby care rooms with changing beds and formula hot water are on Entrance Building 2F and Tempozan Marketplace 3F, and many restrooms have changing tables.
Good to know
- Buy a timed e-ticket the day before and go early or late in the day; midday on weekends and school holidays is the busiest.
- LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and the Tempozan Ferris wheel are next door, so you can easily make a whole bay-area day of it.
