Day 1

Kyoto — kimono under the blossom

    A canal-side path lined with some 500 cherry trees, petals floating on the water at peak.

    ★ Before 8:00 it is nearly empty — the easiest place to shoot this season.

Osaka — castle blossom and the Mint's cherry lane

    A riverside lane of late-blooming cherries of more than 100 varieties, opened for about one week a year.

Nara — blossom with deer, then out

    The pagoda above the cherry trees, a few minutes from the station.

    ★ Prefer Kyoto? Arashiyama's Togetsukyo and Nakanoshima Park have blossom over the Katsura River with fewer people than central Kyoto.
